DEFENSE WINS GAMES
My goodness, Fall is coming fast.
As I reflect on the remarkable achievements of our clients in 2023, I'm thrilled to share some compelling data that displays the effectiveness of our approach to tackling and defense that are now available (via World Metrics.Org) .
Last year, our client defenses collectively allowed just 19.7 points per game. To put this into perspective, the national high school average for points scored per game is 27. This significant difference highlights the impact of our training methods on overall defensive performance.
But what's driving this defensive prowess? The answer lies in the tackling performance of our clients. Let's break down the numbers:
Tackles Made: Our clients achieved a 77% success rate, compared to the high school average of 71%.
Tackle Effectiveness: We saw an impressive 61% effectiveness rate, far surpassing the high school average of 52%.
Yards After Contact per attempt (YAC Average): Our clients limited opponents to just 1.7 yards, while the high school average stands at 2.1 yards.
These statistics paint a clear picture: Atavus-trained teams are making more tackles, executing them more effectively, and limiting the opponent's ability to gain extra yards after contact.
The results speak for themselves. In 2023, Atavus clients posted a remarkable 73% winning percentage. This success on the field is a testament to the hard work of our clients and the effectiveness of our training programs.
As we move forward, we remain committed to pushing the boundaries of tackling performance and defensive strategy. Our goal is to continue providing our clients with the tools and knowledge they need to excel on the field.
Thank you for your continued trust in Atavus. Here's to another year of redefining excellence in football!

RECORD-BREAKING REVENUE
What I’m thinking about this week…
This week, I've been particularly intrigued by the Green Bay Packers' recently released financial results for the 2023 season. As we all know, the Packers' unique status as a publicly-owned franchise provides us with valuable insights into NFL financials that we don't often get to see.
A few key points caught my attention:
Revenue Growth: The Packers reported a record $654 million in revenue, up 7.2% from the previous year. This growth is encouraging for the league as a whole.
National Revenue: Each team received approximately $400 million from the league office, which distributed about $13 billion total. This underscores the strength of our shared media rights, sponsorships, and international business.
Local Revenue: The Packers' local revenue increased by 6.7% to $251.8 million. It's interesting to note that they typically rank at the top of the second quartile among NFL teams in this category.
Operating Profit: Despite revenue growth, operating profit declined by 12.5% due to increased expenses. This serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges in managing costs, even in a strong revenue environment.
Future Developments: The Packers are set to host the 2025 NFL Draft, which highlights the leag
ue's commitment to showcasing smaller markets.
Private Equity: There's an expectation of a vote this fall on allowing private equity investment in NFL teams, with potential ownership stakes capped at 10%. This could have significant implications for team valuations and ownership structures across the league.
Sunday Ticket Lawsuit: The ongoing legal situation regarding the Sunday Ticket class action lawsuit is something we'll need to monitor closely as it could have league-wide financial implications.
These financial results and developments provide valuable insights as we continue to navigate the evolving landscape of professional football. I'll be keeping a close eye on how these trends may impact our league and teams moving forward.
UNDERSTANDING OUR PLAYERS
What I’m excited by…
As we navigate through the summer months, I wanted to share some exciting news about what many of our players have been up to.
By now, you've likely heard the buzz about EA Sports College Football 25. The game has taken the market by storm, and I'm thrilled to report that many of our athletes are part of this groundbreaking release.
Here are some highlights that I think you'll find interesting:
Unprecedented Success: EA Sports College Football 25 sold an astounding 2.2 million copies of its premium edition, which offered early access. This level of engagement has surpassed expectations and previous records for college football games.
Player Compensation: For the first time ever, college athletes are being paid for their likeness in the game. EA is offering $600 per year to over 11,000 players. This is a significant step forward in recognizing the value of our athletes' identities.
Wide Reach: An additional 600,000 people accessed the game through EA Play subscription service. The game ranked #3 in daily active users on Xbox Series X|S and #4 on PS5 in the US.
Market Impact: Industry analysts are calling this a "mass market breakout hit" and have doubled their sales estimates for the game.
What does this mean for us? It's a testament to the growing popularity and recognition of college football. Our players are not just athletes on the field; they're now digital stars reaching millions of fans through this new platform.
As coaches, this presents an opportunity to discuss with your players the responsibilities that come with this increased visibility. It's also a chance to celebrate their inclusion in such a widely popular game.
