MAKING HISTORY
Original Image
Today, I want to spotlight our work with Liberty Christian School in Argyle, Texas, where former Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten took the helm as head coach in 2021.
In his next year, Liberty Christian partnered with Atavus to elevate their defensive game - and the results have been nothing short of phenomenal.
Let's break down their incredible journey:
2021: 2-8 record (pre-Atavus)
2022: 10-2 record (first year with Atavus)
2023: 14-0 record and State Title (second year with Atavus)
The numbers tell a compelling story of improvement:
2022 | 2023 | |
---|---|---|
Points/game: | 14.7 | 6.9 |
Yards/game: | 217.3 | 179.7 |
Tackles Made: | 79% | 83% |
Tackle Effectiveness: | 60% | 69% |
YAC/game: | 110.5 | 78.7 |
Head contact: | 7% | 4% |
These stats showcase significant improvements across the board. The team dramatically reduced points and yards allowed per game, while increasing their tackle success rate and effectiveness. Importantly, we've also seen a reduction in head contact, promoting safer play.
Coach Witten and Family
Coach Witten's expertise combined with Atavus' analytics has created a winning formula that's taken Liberty Christian from struggling to dominate in just two seasons. It's a testament to the power of data-driven coaching and proper tackling technique.
We're proud to have played a role in Liberty Christian's success and look forward to helping more programs achieve similar results.
Stay tuned for more success stories, and remember - better tackling isn't just about winning games, it's about player safety and long-term success.

NATIONAL REVENUE HITS $13 BILLION
What I’m thinking about this week…
I came across an interesting article this week that I wanted to share with you all. It's about the NFL's national revenue for the 2023 season, and let me tell you, the numbers are eye-opening.
Did you know that each NFL team received over $400 million from the league office last season? That's a 6-8% increase from 2022, bringing the total national revenue to around $13 billion. As a former player and now a business executive, I find these figures fascinating.
The article breaks down how this revenue is generated - from media rights to league sponsorships and shared revenue from various NFL affiliates. It's a testament to the league's economic model, which balances a salary cap with guaranteed income for teams.
What really caught my attention was the projection for the future. The national payout has more than doubled over the past decade, and it's expected to reach over $800 million per team in the next ten years. That's some serious growth!
As someone who's been on both sides of the game - on the field and now in the boardroom - I can't help but be impressed by the NFL's business acumen. It's no wonder every team is valued at over $4 billion.
This kind of financial stability and growth is crucial for the sport's future. It allows for continued investment in player safety, stadium improvements, and overall fan experience.

What I’m watching closely…
I just read a report that the NFL is planning to test new first down technology during this upcoming preseason. As a former player and now a CEO in the football world, I'm always excited to see how technology can improve our beloved game.
Here's the scoop: The NFL is looking at an optical tracking system that could make measuring first downs more accurate and reduce human error.
Now, we've all been in those nail-biting situations where a first down comes down to mere inches. This new tech could take a lot of the guesswork out of those crucial calls.
What's interesting is that this system doesn't rely on the microchips in the footballs. Instead, it's all about optical tracking.
They've already been using it at MetLife Stadium and Hard Rock Stadium, but now they're looking to roll it out league-wide.
If all goes well in the preseason, we might see this technology in action during the 2024 regular season. And don't worry, the chain gangs aren't going anywhere - they'll still be there as a backup and reference point.

Does this mean we won't see anymore index cards on the field?! 😨

Remember that controversial index card measurement in the Cowboys-Raiders game back in 2017?
This new system could make moments like that a thing of the past.
I'm really interested to see how this plays out. It could significantly impact game strategy and player confidence in those tight situations.
